They measured the amount of carbon monoxide breathed out by five student volunteers who smoked two vegetable-based cigarettes. In two students, the carbon monoxide concentrations after the first vegetable-based cigarettes online rose from 15 parts per million to 21 parts per million in one, and from 14 parts per million to 26 parts per million in the other. Smoking the second cheap cigarettes led to higher carbon-monoxide concentrations being reached by both students. Dr Ernest Groman and colleagues conclude that vegetable-based cigarettes are “a potential hazard to health”. They emphasise that current treatment of nicotine dependence should consist of a combination of nicotine substitution and behavioural therapy or psychological procedures without medication. Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless and tasteless gas. In high concentrations - far higher than in cigarettes - it can be deadly. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, irritability and difficulty breathing.

I am an ex nurse and worked on a surgical ward. Asking patients whether they smoked was an issue with me. I am a non smoker and have never smoked. You know that sending someone down to theatre, who you knew that smokes and will continue to do so after surgery, firstly, they have paid into the NHS via their stamps, (some might not, another issue). I knew that some of my fellow nurses were outside doing the very same thing. Ask how many nurses smoke and doctors? We also have to spend the NHS money correctly, do we spend the money on someone that is not helping themselves. Or is it the smokers themselves with the tax they pay when they buy their Camel Cigarettes that allows the NNS to spend so much? The government want to tell us how to bring up our children where is the help from them in this issue, is it the smokers are bringing lots of revenue for the government to stop them?

Holt gave me the statistics: One out of every two smokers will die; and for every seven that do, they take one non-smoker with them. In Holt’s opinion, there are three levels of solution: The immediate, which is to move, have the neighbour move, or renovate the building so the smoke no longer penetrates from apartment to apartment; the medium level, which is to make changes to the building, both physical and contractual that make it a non-smoking building; and the long-term, which is what Holt’s organization does, by targeting the tobacco industries to get them to stop marketing to teenagers. The organization is who we can thank for putting those large banner ads on cigarette packages, and their hope is to stop long-term pollution through marlboro cigarettes smoke.

“The buy cheap cigarettes butts in the water really are not coming from people smoking on the beach. They’re coming from inland runoff,” Cook said. And, “I’ll tell ya, fire rings on the beaches are much more problematic than the few individuals who are smoking,” she said. The ban is the latest attempt to snuff smoking in public gathering spots in California. From 1995 to 1998, smokers were booted from restaurants, bars and most workplaces. In 2003, Solana Beach became the first West Coast city to prohibit beach smoking, unleashing bans that have since spread to at least 25 other California cities. This year, Calabasas went so far as to ban smoking in all public places if other people are nearby. The trend stems from “junk science” exaggerating the dangers of secondhand smoke, said Robert Best, California coordinator for The Smoker’s Club, a smokers’ rights group.

The researchers, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, examined the effect on platelet activity of switching smokers from a low-nicotine to a zero-nicotine cigarette. They found that platelet activation increased significantly more among smokers who switched to zero-nicotine cigarettes than among those who continued to smoke low-nicotine cheap cigarettes. In other words, nicotine did appear to suppress to some extent the platelet activating effect of cigarette smoking. Thus, the absence of nicotine led to higher levels of platelet activation, which would be expected to yield a more thrombotic state, and a higher cardiovascular disease risk. The researchers wrote: “With regard to platelet activation – a clear marker of cardiovascular risk – we conclude that these [zero-nicotine] cigarettes may be substantially more pro-thrombotic than nicotine-containing cigarettes. … Nicotine in tobacco smoke of low-nicotine cigarettes significantly protects platelets against activation by non-nicotine smoke components. Accordingly, the reduction or elimination of nicotine from cigarettes may render them more harmful.”

In 1929 “Buckingham” cigarettes’ producers became the sponsors of radio-orchestra Buckingham Booster. It was written in one of the advertisement: “Each member of our orchestra smokes “Buckingham”, because they prefer them for their “throat-easy” qualities. Singers who wish to guard their throats should smoke only the “throat-easy” Buckingham”. During 40ths, such kind of advertisement was displayed in USA magazines: smiling old-fashioned family doctor, one of those, who came on calling to the patients, made his way through drifts to deliver a child, stretched “Lucky Strike” with such expression that it seemed it was not cheap cigarettes but erythromycin pack. “20 679* physicians claim: “Lucky” doesn’t provoke tickling in throat” – it was written. Herbal buy cigarettes designed as an aid to quit smoking are a potential health hazard themselves, researchers have warned. The cigarettes are marketed in some European countries as an aid to stop smoking. They contain no nicotine or tobacco, but are smoked in the usual way. However, a team from the University of Vienna has found that the “vegetable-based” discount cigarettes produce a level of carbon monoxide similar to that produced by tobacco cigarettes. The researchers, who report their findings in the medical journal The Lancet, investigated vegetable-based cigarettes after initial studies suggested that their combustion might produce toxic substances.
